Saving Money at K-Mart

Okay, my head is exploding! I was working on the Frozen Food coupons at Meijer when I found out that my local K-Marts are actually participating in the Super Double Coupons this time around! YEA!!! That means if I take in a $2 coupon, they will double it, that's right ladies and gentlemen, I said double a $2 coupon to take $4 off that item! The possibilities are staggering! Here are some deals that I have matched up with the ad, I will actually be in a store in the morning, coupon binders in hand to figure out if I can get any more deals and then I will try to quickly get another update out to let all of you local readers what to run and buy!

  • Tide is $3 after the $1 coupon in the 9/28 P&G insert
  • Colgate Total Toothpaste is FREE after $1.50 coupon from All You Magazine
  • Gillette Shampoo or Conditioner is FREE after $2 coupon from the 9/28 insert
  • Kotex Panty Liners are FREE after $.75 coupon in the 7/20 SmartSource
  • Pert Plus is FREE after $1.50 coupon
  • Suave Deodorant is $.29 after $.75 coupon
  • Ziploc Storage Containers are $.50 each after $1.50/2 coupon

Other GREAT coupons to use but I don't yet know about the prices:

  • $2 Pull-Ups
  • $1.50 Pampers
  • Make-Up coupons are great!

There is also a $5/$50 coupon that K-Mart will e-mail to you for signing up to receive e-mails from them.

There are some rules:

  1. Only 4 like coupons (i.e. only 4 $1 Tide coupons)
  2. 75 coupons per transaction
  3. Internet Printables are probably a no-go, but you can always try! Corporate is apparently saying it is up to the store managers whether or not they accept them.

Okay, this is all my brain can handle tonight. I will update tomorrow, hopefully! I'm so excited I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight! It's like Christmas Eve in the Saving Sherry house tonight!

Saving Money with Clearance Sales

Now is the time to stock up on your summer clothes and school supplies for next year! The stores want to get rid of short sleeved shirts, shorts, swimming stuff and back to school supplies. They need to room for winter clothes and . . . gasp. . .Christmas stuff!

I went to Target and hit their 75% off sale for things I'm donationing to Grundy Mountain Mission. I got 30 notebooks, 15 packs of loose leaf paper, 15 rulers and 180 pencils for just over $6! The Target near me still had backpacks and they were clearanced to under $4, some were under $3! I didn't see any great deals on clothes yet, but my Target very rarely has any clothes more than 30% off and I'm too cheap, uh, I mean, frugal to pay more than 50% off of regular prices.

I went to JC Penny today and saw they have their 70% off signs up. Yeah!! I used to LOVE those signs when I worked there! The stuff is usually marked down 40-50%, then you take an extra 40% off making it at least 70% off. I miss my employee discount of that extra 20%. (sigh) BUT, today I had an extra 15% off! There is a deal on the back of the JC Penny receipts that if you fill out a survey for them they will e-mail you a coupon for an additional 15% off of your next store or catalog purchase. So, with my coupon in hand, I went scouring the clearance racks! I only found 1 shirt for me, it was $30, I payed $7.64. I'm not sure yet that I will keep it, but I think it will work with a pair of pants I got at a Dillard's going out of business sale recently, so I have to try the outfit on together to see. I got rompers for Jake to wear next year that were regularly $10 for $2.54. I got Drew and Blake TALKING tee shirts for $3.56. That's right, they talk and they are still washable. They have Disney characters on them and they were originally $15!! I got Drew and Jake matching Ohio State outfits for $4.58, they were $18 originally. I think I did pretty good. I had 2 of the 3 boys with me at the store so I was just grabbing everything that struck my fancy and I will look through the bag tonight to decide what I will keep and what I will return. I purchased 35 items for $127.50 and I saved $363.72, a savings of almost 75%. That is about $3.64 per item. That's a pretty good deal, especially since a lot of the items I purchased were entire outfits!

Of course, my favorite place to shop is a local consignment store that has an "everything you can stuff in a bag for $5" sale every month. I look forward to the last Friday of the month like Christmas! I have too much fun! My husband is much better at stuffing the bags than I am, I think my record is 25 items and his record is 31. That is where I get most of my boys' clothes because they have great name brand items like Gymboree, Gap, The Children's Place and Carter's clothes!

So, be sure to check out your local favorite chain stores for great clearance deals! And if you have any local consignment stores, call and ask if they ever have any special sale days, all they can do is say "no" and they might even say "Yes!"

I just found this deal over on Crystal's site and thought it was worth stealing so all of you could see it too! Especially if you are like me and LOVE mineral make-up!

You can get a free custom kit from Everyday Minerals! All you pay for is shipping! I just ordered mine and I only paid $3.13 for shipping! Included in the sample kit is:

  • 3 foundations

Saving Money and Sanity with Vonage

We used to be a 'cell phone only' family. Then we had Drew and I started watching Blake. I had a slight problem. Our house eats cell service. I'm not joking. While in our kitchen or sitting on our couch your call will end. If I come home and forget to take my cell out of my pocket and sit on the couch all calls will go straight to voicemail. I wanted something more reliable than dropped calls and a signal that I wasn't sure of in case of an emergency.

I started pricing what a phone line would cost us. I quickly decided it was not worth it. Our parents live hours away and we found out that it would long distance for my husband to call home from work. Why? I have no idea. It's the same area code. Oddly enough, it's long distance for people less than 5 minutes away from my house to call to others who have land lines in my neighborhood, even those in the same area code and county.

So, we started looking for other options. We already had a cable modem, so I started looking around to see about VoIPs or phones that ran through the Internet. I ran into Vonage and thought we could at least give it a try and see how it worked. The most basic package has 500 minutes, free long distance, call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding and many, many more features and only costs $14.99 a month. And we got to pick whatever phone number we got. We got a number that was local to Rob's work and to all of our friends. We found a converter box on the Vonage website that was free after instant rebate and we got our first month free, so our initial investment was fairly small. We needed to do something, so we gave it a try. That was 3 years ago. We STILL have our Vonage phone and we LOVE it! It was a great investment. We have since changed out package to the unlimited minutes package ($30/month after taxes and fees).
As Drew has grown, we have seen that having unlimited long distance was a great decision. He LOVES talking to Papaw and Gamaw, Granny and Grandad and Uncle Chris on the phone. My mom has been known to stay on the phone with him for 30 minutes just listening to him play. He thinks that if someone is on the phone it's just like they are in the room with him! It's too cute! He "shows" people what toy he is playing with and everything. If he is having a bad day or we are hitting heads and getting on each other's nerves (we have the same personality, sometimes it's not a great thing) I just dial the phone and he immediately is a happy camper. Our parents love the connection with him as well. They love hearing him say new things and getting reports on how his potty training is going!

After we got our home phone, we were able to cut down our cell phone bill because we didn't need near as many minutes as we did before. That helped us pay for more than half of the new phone bill!

There are several different options now for VoIP, but I just wanted to share with you my opinion of the service we use. Even during the power outages I still received all of my phone calls because if calls can't go through they are automatically forwarded to my cell phone. If you are interested in more information about Vonage, please see their website or feel free to ask me. If you are interested to getting Vonage at your home or business (you even get to keep your own number) please let me know. If you use a current Vonage customer as a reference you get 2 months free instead of the normal 1 month.

Saving Sanity with Fireproof

There is a CHRISTIAN movie opening up this weekend! I'm so excited! Fireproof was made by the same Christians who made Facing the Giants. It stars Kirk Cameron. There is a grassroots movement for we as Christians to go and see this movie this weekend to show everyone in Hollywood that there is a large market of people who want wholesome, interesting movies. If you can't make it this weekend, please see this movie as soon as possible and take your neighbors, friends and family with you.

I don't know about you, but I want to be able to watch real movies with my children without hanging my head in shame at the antics on the screen. Here is the synopsis from the Fireproof website:

At work, inside burning buildings, Capt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter's adage: Never leave your partner behind. At home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules.

Growing up, Catherine Holt always dreamed of marrying a loving, brave firefighter...just like her daddy. Now, after seven years of marriage, Catherine wonders when she stopped being "good enough" for her husband.

Regular arguments over jobs, finances, housework, and outside interests have readied them both to move on to something with more sparks.

As the couple prepares to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb's father challenges his son to commit to a 40-day experiment: "The Love Dare." Wondering if it's even worth the effort, Caleb agrees-for his father's sake more than for his marriage. When Caleb discovers the book's daily challenges are tied into his parents' newfound faith, his already limited interest is further dampened.

While trying to stay true to his promise, Caleb becomes frustrated time and again. He finally asks his father, "How am I supposed to show love to somebody who constantly rejects me?"

When his father explains that this is the love Christ shows to us, Caleb makes a life-changing commitment to love God. And with God's help he begins to understand what it means to truly love his wife.

But is it too late to fireproof his marriage? His job is to rescue others. Now Caleb Holt is ready to face his toughest job ever...rescuing his wife's heart.

I'm going, are you?

Saving Money With Coupons

This is part 2 in my coupon series. I can't believe it's been almost 3 weeks since I started it! I'm so sorry! I meant to wait a few days then do this post and I completely forgot! Oh well, I guess you will all forgive the forgetful mommy!

Keeping Your Coupons Organized

There are several ways and methods to keeping your coupons organized and almost everyone has their own way. I am going to touch on some of the most popular and show you what I do with my coupons.

1. Coupon Organizer System- This uses the accordion-type holder that can be purchased at most stores. It is a great tool for beginning or light couponers. If you are a hardcore couponer like myself you will quickly realize that you don't have enough room or enough space to organize. There are usually 6 or 7 pockets to the organizers so you can put your coupons in categories like Health and Beauty, Refrigerated/Frozen Food, Box/Packaged Food, Meat/Dary, Etc. You make your own categories according to what you want to use. I know a few people who even use this as an add-on to their other couponing systems and label each pocket with a store and put the coupons that they know they will be using that week in the pocket.

2. Envelope System- This system uses regular envelopes that you have around the house to organize your coupons. Many people use this system to put the coupons in that they think they will use at the store they are going to. It is handy because you can even use used envelopes from all that junk mail or bills you receive. You can write your shopping list on the outside of the envelope, put your coupons inside and you are good to go.

3. File System- This is one of the first system for real hardcore couponers. If you are like me and you get anywhere from 4- 10 newspapers a week, cutting them is very time consuming and many people frown upon cutting all those coupons that they never use. Filers write the coupons insert name (i.e. SmartSource, RedPlum) and the date on the front cover of the insert in marker so they will be able to find the inserts they need easily later on. Some store them in files, some store them in a pile, that is all up to your own personal preference. You can even print out a list of every coupon inside the insert to staple on the front of the insert from sites like Taylortown Preview or The Coupon Clippers. When I am giving my Weekly Round-Up deals, I always put the insert name and date for the file system people. You can also look up coupons on Hot Coupon World's coupon database. After you log in you just type in the name of the product and it will tell you the name and date of the inserts that contained a coupon for that product. You then go back and cut the coupons you need to use every week and use one of the above systems to take them to the store with you.

4. Binder System- This is the system that I use. On Sunday or Monday my wonderful, amazing, supportive of my coupon addiction husband cuts out all of my coupons. I then file all of them into my 2 binders. That right, sadly I have 2 binders, most people only need 1, but I have WAY too many coupons and had to expand in an extra binder. (I can hear all of my friends laughing at me right now) I use baseball card protectors and page dividers. Each baseball card protector has 9 slots on it. For me, that holds 8 different coupons (all like coupons are in the same slot, with the earliest expiration date in the front) the bottom right hand slot is used as a label so I know quickly what page I'm looking for. I have a 3" binder that includes main categories of Household, Health and Beauty, Baby Needs and Heath Care Items. I have a 1" binder for food. I used to use normal binders that I carried with my ads in a cloth bag. I recently upgraded to zippered binders with shoulder straps. (my husband in embarrassed to go to the store with me, but he does it because he loves me) These binders have pockets for things like my ads, ECBs and Register Rewards, scissors and new coupons that I pick up while walking through the store. Each major category is divided into smaller sections like Cleaning Supplies (brands with a lot of coupons have their own page and there is a misc. page for all others), Paper Supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates all have their own pages), Laundry Detergent, Fabric Softener, etc. I'm REALLY organized with these, most people aren't into the subcategories like I am, but this is the way my brain works. Some people organize their binders to follow the path around their favorite store, aisle by aisle and some just put each coupon in alphabetical order according to the product name. This is one of those things that you just have to figure out what works best for you.

5. Box Method- This method is similar to the binder method, except coupons are held in a box. You can use any box you want to use, I have one friend that uses an oblong Rubbermaid storage container, I have heard of people using briefcases and my mom used an old shoe box. You can make dividers out of anything you want to- note cards, cut up cereal boxes, anything. You can have as many categories as you want or as few as you want; a huge box or a small box. This method, like the binder method is very flexible and allows you to do whatever you want to do.

These are the top 5 (at least that I know of) methods of storing your coupons. If you use another method and you want to tell us all about it, please leave a description in the comments section.

As always, please feel free to leave a comment or e-mail me if you have any questions!

Saving Time Cooking

Sorry I didn't get a recipe posted last week. With the power out and everything else going on in our lives, time just slipped away from me and I forgot to do it. This week is a 2 part recipe. There is an easy way and a, well, it's not any harder, it just takes longer way. (Okay, so I haven't won any awards for writing since 5th grade!)

Chicken Parmesan

2 or 3 chicken breasts, cut into 1" pieces
1 jar spaghetti sauce
1 box spaghetti, prepared to box instructions
2 eggs
Milk
bread crumbs
Parmesan cheese
Garlic Powder
2 C mozzarella cheese

1. Mix equal parts bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese (I use roughly 2 C each) and Garlic Powder to taste (I use, umm, I use a lot, we LOVE garlic).
2. Mix eggs and a few tablespoons milk to make a milk wash.
3. Dip each piece of chicken in the milk wash and then in the bread crumb mixture to coat.
4. Place into a greased 9x13 pan.
5. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
6. Pour the jar of Spaghetti sauce over the chicken, place back in oven for 15 minutes.
6. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese over chicken and sauce, place back in oven for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Serve chicken over spaghetti!

Okay, you can also to this:

Follow steps 1-3 from above
4. Place in hot skillet (use 2T butter or oil)
5. Fry for 2 or 3 minutes on each side or until slightly browned
6. Place in 9x13 pan
7. Pour Spaghetti sauce and sprinkle cheese over chicken
8. Bake at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes

Serve chicken over spaghetti!

I usually do the first recipe, but if we're having company, I'll do the second one to make it fancier. Hope you enjoy this recipe! It's another favorite of my family!

Well, apparently Ikea decided you all have been good and wanted to give you another $.99 discount! Saving Money at Kroger and Meijer

Oh have I found some deals for you! I'm feeling the love from Kroger this week. I don't know how I have missed these deals, but now that I know about them, I'm stocking up! There are 2 deals that are worth making the trip, but make them in this order:

  1. Glade PlugIns Scented Gel Warmer are $1.87. When you buy 1 you get a Catalina for $2 off your next order. Umm, did I just make $.13? Why yes, I did. Wanna make more? Use the B1G1 free coupon from this pasts weeks SmartSource insert or the printable here to pay $1.87 for 2 PlugIns and get $4 off your next order. Umm, yeah, sounds like a plan to me. Now use the Catalinas you just got to buy
  2. Old El Paso. Like Tacos? Old El Paso is part of Kroger's "Buy 15 get $3 off your order" deal this week. Taco shells are 10/$10 and many shells have peelies on them to get a seasoning packet free when you buy any 2 Old El Paso products. So, buy 10 packs of taco shells and 5 packs of seasoning and use 5 peelie stickers to get the seasoning free, PLUS you get $3 off your order. Grand total: $7 Use the cats you just got from your PlugIns and the total just keeps going down!

Meijer is making me kinda happy this week. Not as happy as they have recently been making me, but I love free, so they are doing okay. You need to get the Buy any 3 Johnson's Products coupon that has the word Buddies on it. You go to Meijer, buy 3 Johnson's Buddies Bars of soap for $.99 each and use the coupon to get them free. A Catalina will print out for the exact same coupon you just used. Keep going until they run out of soap or you think you have enough stock. My kids can't use it but my husband and I love this stuff. It's the soap that has the "wash cloth" cover on it and it smells like watermelon.

Seen any deals I've missed? Please let me know. I'm always on the lookout for new deals!

Saving Sanity with Electricity

Guess who's power was out for 28 hours? That's right, it was me! Oh boy, try explaining to a 3 year old that the lights are broken, the TV is broken, the toaster is broken and the list goes on and on. He was a trooper though. He did a great job and we were very proud of him. He was very excited when he came in the house and saw lights on. He was bouncing around saying "They fixed it, Mommy! They fixed it!" School was canceled today and Rob had no power at work so he stayed home. That makes it 4 days in a row he's been home (he had to take off last Friday because I was too sick to function). We had a wonderful time playing with the neighbors, grilling out and potty training by flashlight.

Did I mention we started potty training on Saturday? THAT was fun done by flashlight. Only 2 accidents so far, so he's doing much better than we anticipated. He wears "big boy underwear" during the day and pull-ups at nap-time and bedtime. He's an all or nothing kind of kid, so Rob and Drew spent about an hour in the bathroom watching a DVD, eating snacks and drinking water on Saturday until he went potty. Once he did it, he was good to go, at least so far. We'll see how he does at school. He will definitely be in pull-ups for that because of the bus ride. I don't think the transportation department would be very happy with me if he had an accident on the bus!

Well, just wanted to update you all about what was going on in our lives this weekend. Hopefully I can find some new deals to entice me to go to the store tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll be able to tear myself away from the powerful feeling I get when I flip a switch and turn on the lights. God must have thought it was pretty cool when He said "Let there be light" and I now, in some small way, feel just as pleased as He did that very first time.

Saving Time Cooking

This recipe I stole, ummm, borrowed from my friend Pam. Thanks Pam! She brought it to us after I had Jake and we just had to have the recipe!

Chicken Enchiladas

6-8 chicken breasts
1 Jar hot salsa
1 package flour tortillas
1 16oz container of sour cream
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 small can chopped green chilies
2 C shredded Monterrey Jack/Colby cheese mix

Put the chicken and salsa in the crock pot on low. Let it cook until chicken breasts are cooked and easily shredded (usually about 8 hours, you can cook them all day or overnight). When chicken is cooked, put 1/2 shredded chicken into a freezer bag or other freezer storage container (I'll tell you why later).

Mix sour cream, soup, chilies and 1 C cheese in sauce pan until warm. Place the remaining 1/2 shredded chicken into tortillas and roll, line them up in a pan (I use 9x13) roll side down, repeat until pan is full or you run out of tortillas or chicken. Pour mixture from sauce pan over the lined up tortillas. Sprinkle remaining cheese over and cover with foil. Bake at 350 until hot and bubbly or place in fridge or freezer until needed.

Okay, Pam uses fat free, low carb soft tacos, I use normal, filled with bad stuff, burritos. So, use whatever you want. You can use everything else low fat or fat free if you want. It still works!

I doubled the chicken and salsa part of this recipe when I started making it because you now have enough seasoned, cooked, shredded chicken to make chicken tacos. Place in a freezer bag and use it at will. 2 meals at once! I usually just use a bag of frozen chicken breasts, they are 4lb bags. You will want to let them thaw before using them in the crock pot, otherwise the salsa will be really runny and the chicken won't have as much flavor (I know that, now). The hot salsa does not make the enchiladas hot, I promise. I don't do hot. At all. I don't even do mild salsa because it is too hot for me. After cooking for hours the salsa looses it's hotness. I'm not sure that was a word, but that's the truth.

Chicken Tacos

1/2 Shredded Chicken left over from Chicken Enchiladas
Taco shells, hard or soft
Shredded Cheese
Any other toppings you want: sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, whatever you like

Heat chicken. Build your taco. Enjoy!

Saving Money at Target

Do you like Kashi Cereal? If so, do I have a deal for you! Kashi Cereal is 4/$11 this week at Target. If you buy 4 boxes, you get a $5 Target Gift Card. Use the printable coupon here to get $2 off any Kashi product or the printable coupon here for $1 off any Kashi Go Lean Crunch. You should be able to print both of these coupons out 2 times per computer. Say you only have 1 computer, your deal would look like this:

Buy:
2 boxes any Kashi
2 boxes Kashi Go Lean Crunch
Total= $11
Use
2 $2 any Kashi coupons
2 $1 Kashi Go Lean Crunch coupons
Total now=$5
Get a $5 Gift Card

Now, by my math, that equals free cereal. Again, my husband is accusing me of doing "fuzzy mathematics" but we will ignore him for now. If you use the gift cards that you got from buying PopTarts last week, there is no initial investment. Have more computers? Keep doing the deal until you run out of coupons.

Are you a member of Vocal Point? If you are then last week your probably received an entire envelope of Kashi cereal coupons. Use them to your advantage! If you aren't on the Vocal Point mailing list, sign up! You get free stuff and coupons from them. I like free stuff and coupons, don't you?

See any other great deals at Target? Leave a comment or e-mail me!

Saving Money at Meijer

I keep seeing new deals at Meijer and I thought I would let you guys all know about the great stuff I am reading. There is an AMAZING deal on Powerade, it gets kinda complicated because of all the different ways you can do this deal, but stick with me and I will break everything down for you. Thanks to moonflower on Hot Coupon World for initially bring this to my attention.

Easy
Powerade is on sale for $.59 a piece. If you buy 6 Powerade Zeros you will get a $4 Catalina to use at Meijer on your next order. 6x.59=$3.54. Spent $3.54 up front and then you can use the $4 Catalina to buy 6 more Powerade Zeros. Rinse and Repeat until you have enough drinks to make you happy.

Easy + 1
Buy 6 Powerade Zeros as listed above but use the $.75 or $1 coupons found in the 6/7 or 7/13 Smart Source. That will take the price of your initial investment down.

Getting Harder
If you buy 10 Glaceau Vitamin Waters (on sale 10/$10) you get 5 Powerades for free. There are tearpads out there for $1/1 Vitamin Waters. Should you be lucky enough to find these tearpads (send me some if you do, please) and you take 10 coupons, you can get 10 Vitamin Waters, 5 Powerade Zeros and a $3 OYNO (on your next order) coupon for FREE.

Genius Level Couponer
Use these coupons in any combination you want to:
- $.75 or $1 off Powerade
- $1 off Glaceau Vitamin Water
- Buy 2 Get 1 Free on Powerade or Vitamin Water (8/24 Smart Source)

Don't forget that Powerade is a Coke product, meaning you can get $10 off a pair of athletic shoes!

This is limit 1 per transaction, so you can do it more than once, just not more than once at a time. Anyway you go, this is a great deal. Kroger is also doing the OYNO Catalina on Powerade Zeros, they just aren't doing the addition of the Vitamin Water.

Question? Leave a comment or e-mail me, I'm here to help you save!

Saving Money With Coupons

This is a new series I'm going to try out. I will be explaining to you how I use coupons to stretch the dollar around the Saving Sherry household. I'm going to start the series with the process of acquiring coupons.

How to Acquire a Stash of Coupons

1. GET THE SUNDAY NEWSPAPER!!! That is the easiest, most reliable way to get coupons. You don't need to pay for the weekly newspaper, most papers will let you get the Sunday only subscription or if not that they will have a weekend only subscription. It's a good investment for your money. This way even if you forget to go out and buy a paper or you are out of town, you still have the coupons at home waiting on you.

2. Ask friends, family members or neighbors for their leftover coupons. Many people don't want to take the time to use coupons (for shame!) or only use a few coupons and throw the rest away. Don't be shy, don't be nervous, just ask them for their extras. If you want, you can work out a trade like: "I'll bring your trash cans back from the curb if you will save me your extra coupons". Who would say no to that?

3. Buy extra newspapers. This is the option I use a lot. In our area of Cincinnati, there are stores every week that sell the Sunday paper for $.99. Usually I make back that money by using just 1 coupon from each paper. If I use more than 1 coupon (which I almost always do), I've made money by buying the paper, so it justifies the original purchase.

4. Online clipping services and e-bay. You can use online clipping services like The Coupon Clippers or Early Bird Coupons to order multiples of coupons you know you want extras of. Coupons and Things by Dede sells the coupon inserts as a whole, it you think it is a really good week and don't want to get extra papers. E-bay is a great source of coupon gathering. Just search for the coupon you want and you will usually find several sellers offering it. My tip there is to use the Buy It Now feature. That way you don't have to wait for the bidding to be over before the seller ships the coupons to you. If you have to wait, you may miss the sale that you wanted the coupons for in the first place. Please keep in mind that you are not paying these services for the actual coupons, but you are paying for the time it took them to cut the coupons.

5. Keep your eyes open when you are shopping. I have found some of the best coupons I've ever used for free on tearpads or in the blinking machines at the store. Sometimes I'm buying a product with a coupon I already have only to see that it has a peelie coupon stuck to the front of the product that is better than the coupon I originally wanted to use. Do you have young kids? They love having jobs to do like finding the blinking machines at the store. I've even heard of moms paying their kids a penny or 2 for every coupon they find at the store. Something to think about. . .

6. Online coupons are wonderful. I have a side bar that is filled with coupons you can print out or you can go to coupons.com to access the same ones. Do you want to buy a specific product but don't have a coupon for it? Check the product's website. A lot of manufactures put links to coupons on their sites for you. You can also try e-mailing the company asking them for a coupon. Tell them how much you want to try their product but are worried about the price and ask them if they have any coupons available for said product. Either they will say no or they will thank you for your interest and send you some coupons! It really works! I promise. It doesn't work all the time, but it's worth the minute of your time to find out!

These are some of the tactics I have used to get my enormous stash of my coupons. Do you have any ideas I missed? What works best for you? Let us know! Next, I'll be talking about what to do
with all of the coupons you have acquired!

Saving Memories

Yesterday my baby became a big boy. You are looking at the school bus as it took my baby off to preschool. He was excited, mommy was sad. I guess that's how it always will be, I'll want to keep him little and he will want to grow up.

I'm taking comfort in Ecclesiastes 8:9 "what has been will be again, . . .there is nothing new under the sun" to remind myself that I am not the first mommy to ever put her baby on a school bus.

I am anxiously anticipating hearing his first "Mommy!" when he gets off the school bus and gives me a big squeeze, but until then I have other children to raise and other memories to save.

Saving Money on PopTarts

My friend was complaining to me that she didn't have any of the $1/2 PopTarts coupons that I talked about in my Weekly Round-Up. So, being the good friend that I am I poured over the world wide web until I found a printable coupon for her. Since all of you are becoming my good friends, I thought I would share it with you as well. First, I will remind you of the AMAZING deal Target has right now!

Buy 4 Kellogg 12 ct. PopTarts (or some other stuff) get a $5 Target Gift Card.

Buy 4 boxes of PopTarts
- 2 $1/2 Kellogg printable coupon or from the Kellogg insert
- 4 $.50 printable Target Coupon (available to Hot Coupon World members)
That equals $5 out of pocket and you recieve a $5 gift card! FREE POPTARTS!!!!

You should be able to print 2 coupons per computer at the bricks printable site and you can print as many as you want. Even without the $1/2 coupon, just using the Target Coupon, you can get PopTarts for $.50 a box! This is one amazing deal! It's while supplies last, so print out some coupons and run to your nearest Target!

Update! While continuing to pour over the world wide web I found a $1/1 printable coupon for Keebler Fudge Shop Cookies, which falls under the "or some other stuff" mentioned above! Add this coupon to the deal and it just keeps getting sweeter!

Saving Time Cooking

This week's easy recipe comes from one of my favorite cookbooks 365 Quick, Easy and Inexpensive Dinner Menus. If you aren't an experienced cook or if you need fast, family friendly food, it's a great cookbook to have in your cabinet.

Chicken Tetrazzini

1 lb chicken breasts, cooked and cut into bite-sized pieces
1 lb spaghetti, cooked according to package directions
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
1 can chicken broth
1 T onion powder (optional, if you don't have any, oh well, leave it out)
2 C Mild Cheddar Cheese

Put everything except 1 C of cheese in a greased 9x13 pan and stir. Sprinkle the 1 C of cheese on top. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.

Add a veggie and fruit and you're good to go for dinner! You can use fat free or reduced fat soup, it all works just the same. The original recipe calls for grated American cheese, haven't found that in the store yet and I don't have time to grate cheese, so you can try that if you want. It also calls for 1 C chopped celery and 1 can of water chestnuts, but I've never added them. Try what you like and see if your family enjoys this recipe as much as mine! This is one of those meals that is just as good warmed up as it is originally!

Saving Money on Flowers for Your Neighbor

In honor of my Birthday, tomorrow, September 3, FTD is giving flowers away! Isn't that nice of them to remember by Birthday? Okay, so maybe it's a coincidence that Good Neighbor Day happens to fall on my Birthday, but I can pretend it's for me, can't I?

There are several florists participating in Good Neighbor Day this year by giving away bouquets of flowers for you to give to a neighbor. Sounds like a good idea to me! To see if there are any florists in your area check the list. If you want more information this, check out the FTD website!

ALL OF THIS FOR $3.11!!!!

That's right! Just by following some of my Weekly Round-Up tips, I got all of this with only spending $3.11. Well, almost. I actually spent $26.09 in cash and $15 in ECBs at CVS, I left with $10 in gift cards to Target, I'll get $10 from a Kellogg rebate and I earned $17.98 in ECBs to spend next time at CVS.

Confused? So was my husband. Let me break it down for you, store by store, coupon by coupon. . .

Target
Transaction #1
8 boxes of PopTarts =$18
- 4 $1/2 Kellogg Poptart coupons
- 8 $.50 Target PopTart coupons
Total= $10
Received=$10 in Gift Cards
I will submit this receipt with the Kellogg rebate from the Kellogg insert and get a check for $10!

Transaction #2
8 boxes of PopTarts= $18
- 4 $1/2 Kellogg PopTart coupons
- 8 $.50 Target PopTart coupons
Used $10 in gift cards from transaction #1= $0 money out of pocket
Received = $10 in Gift Cards
Rinse and repeat if you have more coupons. . .

Wal-Mart
45 packets of Kool-Aid= $9.00
7 Kraft Salad Dressings= FREE with 7 coupons similar to the ones in All You Magazine
3 Crystal Light= FREE with 3 coupons similar to the ones in All You Magazine
5 Oscar Meijer Hot Dogs= FREE with 5 coupons similar to the ones in All You Magazine
Total= $9.00

There are actually 8 packages of hot dogs pictured, sorry, I put them in the fridge, took them out for the picture and didn't realize that I took some of my Mom's out with mine.

I could have gotten this deal for $4.50 at Meijer, but I'm in Indiana and the Meijer ad doesn't start here until Thursday and my coupons were expiring today, so I'm not going to complain about $9 for everything I got!

CVS
I didn't want to wipe any CVSs out of the items I was buying and I am using my card and my husband's card (He is forced to do my deals with me!) so there are 3 transactions here.

So, that's how I got everything for $3.11. If you take the amount of money and ECBs I spent and subtract the amount of gift cards, ECBs and money I will receive it works out to $3.11. My husband says I'm using "fuzzy mathematics", but, I think it's Saving Sherry Math!

Happy Savings!
